For unavoidable reasons, we've decided to delay the release of 1.8 for up to 1 month.

The development of key functionality has had to be put on hold for a short while, and it was decided that, rather than release an incomplete implementation on time, it would be better to delay the release for a short while and release with all intended functionality.

One of the important considerations in this decision was the apparent lack of urgent requirement for the 1.8 release. If anyone disagrees with this, please contact me and we may review the decision.

On a more positive note, during recent meetings, we have also decided to review the release process after 1.8, to make it much leaner and faster. So while this release has been somewhat painful for various reasons, the hope is that subsequent releases will be more frequent and smoother for everyone.
